Propaganda Map

Propaganda maps emphasize a central theme of map analysis--maps are not just two dimensional depictions used solely for navigation. Maps can be made to influence readers in certain ways. Propaganda maps may exaggerate the truth or completely make it up to make some other (usually political) statement. They are made with intentional bias for one side and usually reflect another group of people as inferior or evil. The above map is a Japanese propaganda map made during wartime to depict the evils of the British imperial rule. Much of Asia is depicted here, stretching from India to Japan, and the British ships are comparable in size to countries on the map.
