Hypsometric maps depict ranges of terrain elevation using various colors or tints. Hypsometric maps blend contour lines together with colors and color gradients show increases or decreases in elevation. The map above is a hypsometric representation of the planet Mars. Represented in this way, the general topography of a large part of the planet is able to be seen relatively quickly.
