Isotachs

Isotach lines are used to show areas of equal wind speed. Hurricanes and other storms can be tracked using isotachs. They are also important for locating the jet stream and streaks within a jet stream. Isotachs are most often contoured in the upper levels of the atmosphere. The map above tracks the jet stream over the American Great Plains. Isotach lines are usually shown with isolines, as wind is a function of pressure and speed.
