Isohyets are lines joining points of equal precipitation. The map above shows the Hawaiian island of Kaua'i and shows isohyets representing the island's mean rainfall in October of 2011. The isohyets encircle the peak of the volcanic mountain in the center of the island, showing the correlation between altitude and precipitation.
