Mental Map

Mental maps are representations of cartographic information based on one's perception of spatial data and distribution. One common experiment in mental mapping is to have people draw a map of the world, their town, or some familiar place. The map above was drawn by a student in Thailand who was part of a National Geographic study on mental mapping of the world by kids around the world. Interestingly, most kids in the study, even those in developing countries, centered the world on Europe.
