Doppler Radar

Doppler radar maps track weather patterns across a region. By sending out microwave radiation, a return signal is received, and the Doppler effect is used to produce data about weather formations from a distance. The return signals tell the receiving scientist how the microwaves were affected by approaching or retreating formations. The above map shows the current (7/23/2012 at 6:47 PM) Doppler radar reading for the greater Tallahassee region. This data came from the National Weather Service's Doppler radar site in Tallahassee. The National Weather Service has National Doppler Radar Sites scattered throughout the country.
