PLSS (Public Land Survey System) Map

The Public Land Survey System is a method of dividing up the United States based on different variables and demographics. The PLSS is used to divide public domain lands Due to the history of the land in the west being under public domain, most states in the west and many in the south are under the PLSS system. The map above shows the extent of the system in the US. The original 13 states and Texas aren't part of the PLSS, as shown by their lack of coloration on the map.
