Digital line graphs were developed by the U.S. Geological
Survey. They are compilations of various types of cartographic data
represented in the form of digital vectors. The above digital line graph
is of the southwestern United States. There are various different
symbols used in a DLG. The red lines in this DLG are roads, the blue
lines are streams. The different shades of land surface are types of
federal lands, such as different government bureaus. DLGs are great when
used with a GIS, as the vector form of the information makes data that
much easier to distribute and analyze.
