A
black and white aerial photograph is a satellite image taken from above
(normally in a plane although other methods, like birds and hot air
balloons, have been utilized). These photographs collect data in the
visible light spectrum. Aerial imagery allows us to analyze large land
surface areas. In this case, an urban setting is shown, although this
imagery is quite useful for other areas too. New York City is shown here
in 1928. Taken by Fairchild Area Surveys, this image was probably used
by urban planners and architects to continue building up New York City's
infrastructure
